I am glad to be back! I took the last couple of weeks off to spend quality time with family. During my time off I had time to reflect on my life and business.  My goal was to look at what I am grateful for and what I want or need to change. I am definitely grateful that I had the time to reflect on my life I hope all of you had some time to recharge and reflect on your lives in the past year. Once it was clear to me what I wanted to change, I started creating my resolutions.

Many of you may start the new year off with resolutions. Resolutions are usually goals that come to us when we reflect on what we would like to change in our lives. Unfortunately, most people’s resolutions go to the pile of forgotten goals by Valentine’s Day. Some common resolutions such as losing weight, making more money, spending more time with family are forgotten as we go back to our routines and daily challenges. What if this year was different? What if you are finally able to keep your New Year’s resolutions? What would your life look like? I have some tips to help you keep your resolutions. These may be new or simply a reminder, my hope is that seeing these steps written here inspires you to move forward and achieve your resolutions.

    1. Look at the Past. Start your new goals/resolutions by looking at the past and celebrate what you have accomplished. What goals did you reach? Now write all your accomplishments down, look at your list and recognize how far you have come.

    2. Ask WHY? When you decide on your resolutions, ask yourself why you want to accomplish this goal? How will accomplishing this goal help you and improve your life? Knowing why will give you the inspiration to move forward when you get stuck.

    3. Write it down and break it down. I know you have heard this before, break down your goals into smaller tasks. For instance if you want to lose weight because you want to have more energy to play with your kids, break that down to how much weight you want to lose per week, month and year. Now write that down!

    4. Create Tasks as Appointments. Now you know what you want to specifically accomplish, for instance lose 10 lbs, if you want lose 1lb a week, write down that goal. Now ask yourself what you are going to do to lose weight, how will you change your diet and or exercise plan? Once you know what you will SPECIFICALLY do to accomplish your goal, write that down on your calendar. Write down each task like an important appointment on your calendar.

    5. Tell people. Now tell someone you trust what you want to accomplish. Ask them to be your accountability partner. Give them permission to check on you and your progress weekly. As you moving towards accomplish your goal/resolutions, issues will come up, it is beneficial to have an accountability partner.

That’s it! simple, right? First, know based on your past accomplishments that you can reach your goals. Next, be clear about your WHY and write down your goal. Once you have a clear goal in mind, break it down to smaller goals and then write down specific tasks you will do to accomplish that goal. Put your tasks down on your calendar and stick to them like appointments. Finally, find someone you can be accountable with.

I hope you enjoyed this post and benefitted from it, if you want help implementing this or reach other goals in your life I would love to talk. Click here to set up a complimentary goal setting strategy session.
